Putting the “Resolve” into Resolutions

It’s a great time to set your intentions for a new year.  Yet why do so many people fail to continue with their resolutions after only a few days or weeks?  There are two big reasons:

(1)   Too many resolutions; or

(2)    Resolutions that are too lofty or too hard to reach.

How many resolutions are  too many?  Most time management experts agree that more than 2 or 3 resolutions are just too hard to keep track of which will cause failure to keep them. .

An even better success strategy is to set your sights on only one New Year’s resolution and put your total focus on taking positive action and baby steps each day to achieve it.  Doesn’t it make sense that you will be much more motivated to change your habits if you are only focusing on one habit to change at a time!

How do you know if a resolution is too lofty?  If your initial reaction is “It will be a miracle if I can swing this”, then it will probably stay outside of your achievement circle.  When you create your resolution ask yourself if it is doable, achievable and realistic.

If you follow these two small pieces of advice, you will be much more likely to keep your New Year’s Resolutions all year long.

Happy New Year!

The Story of Your Life

Doc Childre and Howard Martin said: “You’re writing the story of your life one moment at a time.” What is your life’s story saying at this very moment?  Is it saying what you want it to say?
